I don’t know about anyone else but I have seriously lacked big time in the self-care department. Between working, being a-full time student, studying for a CPT, and life, self-care has often been on the back of my mind. Coming from a past of depression and anxiety I can’t tell you enough how important self-love and care can be for the mind, body, and soul. So why do I love self-care?
I love self-care because it helps to balance out my energies. What do I mean by this? Usually my days consist of being around people, whether I’m at work, school, out, or home. Everything has energy both good and bad and what you surround yourself with can impact your personal energy. My favorite time to do self-care is after I’ve had a bad day and I want to relax and renew for the next day.
A list below are some of my favorite Self-care essentials.
A bath. A bath Is a must for me anytime I need a self-care routine. From the hot water, essential oils (my favorite are Mint and Citris), candles, and a good read I’m completely relaxed and in my zen.
Meditation/yoga. I LOVE this one. There is just something so deeply satisfying about these two things especially when combined. These two take me out of a stressful moment and put me into the now. I become more in tune with my body and my direct surroundings and focus less on the materialistic world which causes most of my anxiety. I love to listen to Youtube meditations, podcasts, and apps like insight timer.
A good read. My all-time favorite author is James Patterson because he creates suspenseful content that keeps me on my toes and interested. If you love thrillers definitely check out his books. My other favorite books to read are books on mindfulness, empowerment, and motivation (I’m kind of a nerd at heart). My two favorite are A mindful morning by David Dillard-Wright and You are woman, you are divine by Renee star. I go more into detail about these books in my Must have reads for mind and soul post.
Spa Day. Whether you go out to a spa or you stay home to save money, both feel satisfying and refreshing. One of my favorite things to do is take a relaxing bath, put on a robe, paint my nails and do a facial all while sipping an iced tea. Doesn’t that sound awesome?!
Get a workout in. Because I love fitness this one feels awesome to me. For some it may not be the same way which is totally fine because we are all different and we all enjoy different things. However, for me it’s probably my favorite type of self-care because it really helps me to get in the zone and push myself. The best feeling that I get from a workout is knowing that I’m really benefiting my mind and body and in doing so benefiting my soul as well. In another post, I go more into how health changed my life forever and pulled me out of depression.
These are just a few of the things I love to do when I have a self-care routine but there are endless possibilities. It’s really all about doing what makes you thrive soulfully. Comment below some of your self-care rituals!
